About Star Citizen
Star Citizen is a space sim and MMO game, made by Cloud Imperium Games and published by Roberts Space Industries. You can play it multiplayer, online player versus player or online co-op.
What Star Citizen needs
In plain words: to play at all it needs an entry-level graphics card, and to play it well the makers suggest a decent mid-range graphics card, with 32GB of memory.
| Part | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Graphics card | DirectX 11.1 compatible Graphics Card with 4 GB VRAM | DirectX 12 compatible Graphics Card with 8 GB VRAM |
| Processor | Quad Core CPU - Intel: i7 (Haswell or later), AMD: Excavator or later | Quad/Eight Core CPU - Intel: i7 (Haswell or later), AMD: Ryzen 5 or later |
| Memory (RAM) | 16 GB | 32 GB DDR4 |
| Storage | 150+ GB SSD required | 150+ GB SSD required |
From the Roberts Space Industries Knowledge Base: Star Citizen Minimum System Requirements, checked 16 October 2026. The makers sometimes change these; their page is always right.
Will my computer play Star Citizen?
On most computers we find the graphics card for you. Add your processor and memory, and we will tell you if it plays, and what to upgrade if not.
A low-spec PC or a high-spec PC?
The gap between the minimum and recommended spec is modest, so a mid-range gaming PC gives a good experience.
On a PC that only just meets the minimum, the game will start and play, but on low settings: simpler shadows and textures, shorter view distances and fewer frames each second, so fast moments can feel less smooth. A 1080p screen is the sensible match.
On a PC that meets or beats the recommended spec, you can turn the settings up: sharper textures, proper shadows and lighting, more detail in the distance, and a smoother picture. A stronger PC also lets you use a sharper 1440p or high-refresh screen.
Our PCs that meet the recommended spec
These should play Star Citizen well. Cheapest first.
