AutoCAD: PC requirements and the PC you need
Design and CADby Autodesk
About AutoCAD
2D drafting and 3D design drawings for architecture, engineering and manufacturing.
What AutoCAD needs
In plain words: to run at all it needs an entry-level graphics card, and to run it well a decent mid-range graphics card, with 32GB of memory.
| Part | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Graphics card | 2 GB GPU with 29 GB/s bandwidth, DirectX 11 compliant | 8 GB GPU with 106 GB/s bandwidth, DirectX 12 compliant |
| Processor | 2.5-2.9 GHz processor with 8 logical cores (base) | 3+ GHz processor (base), 4+ GHz (turbo) |
| Memory (RAM) | 8 GB | 32 GB |
| Storage | 10.0 GB (SSD suggested) | - |
| Windows | 64-bit Windows 11 and Windows 10 | - |
From Autodesk's own page (for AutoCAD 2026), checked 16 October 2026. The makers sometimes change these; their page is always right. Where the makers give only the graphics card's memory, the strength we match on is our own estimate from that memory.
Will my computer run AutoCAD?
Type your graphics card, processor and memory. On most computers we find the graphics card for you.
Our PCs that meet the recommended spec
These should run AutoCAD well. Cheapest first.

Questions about AutoCAD on PC
What graphics card do I need for AutoCAD?
The makers say: 2 GB GPU with 29 GB/s bandwidth, DirectX 11 compliant as a minimum, and 8 GB GPU with 106 GB/s bandwidth, DirectX 12 compliant recommended.
How much memory (RAM) does AutoCAD need?
At least 8GB, and 32GB is recommended. For big projects, more memory always helps.
Can a PC from Sandbox Computers run AutoCAD?
Yes. 71 of our PCs meet the recommended spec, from £1,169. They are built and tested in Worcester.
Is a gaming PC good for AutoCAD?
Usually, yes. A gaming PC has a strong graphics card, a fast processor and plenty of memory, which is what AutoCAD needs too. Some professional work is certified only on workstation graphics cards: if your employer or client requires that, ask us first.
How we match: we compare the graphics card and memory in each PC with the makers' spec. For professional work with certified hardware, or very large projects, ask us for a custom build. See all the software we cover.
