Best gaming PC for GTA V

GTA V is still one of the most played games on PC, for the story and for GTA Online. Because it is an older game, it runs on a wide range of PCs, but it looks far better with a proper graphics card.
What GTA V needs
- Graphics card: the part that draws the picture. GTA V is medium in how demanding it is. A mid-range graphics card plays it well at 1080p. Built-in graphics (graphics inside the processor) can run it, but only with the settings turned right down.
- Processor: a decent modern processor keeps the busy city running smoothly, with lots of cars and people on screen.
- Memory (RAM): 16GB is sensible.
- Storage: GTA V is a big game. An SSD (a fast storage drive) makes loading much quicker, and loading screens are something GTA players notice.
There is also a newer, enhanced edition of GTA V on PC. It looks better and needs more power. If that is the version you want, aim for the stronger PCs further down this page.

Going further: high settings, 1440p and streaming
Turning the settings up makes Los Santos look much more detailed, with better lighting, longer view distances and sharper shadows. A 1440p screen makes everything crisper. Both need a stronger graphics card.
If you want smoother play on a fast screen, or to stream GTA Online to friends, a stronger graphics card and processor help. Our guide to frame rate and refresh rate explains what "smooth" really means.

Which screen?
A 1080p screen is the easiest for the PC. 1440p looks sharper but needs more power. Read 1080p, 1440p or 4K and what size monitor is best for gaming. If you are buying for a younger player, our parent's guide may help too. For other big games, see the best PC for Warzone.

Questions people ask
Can an older or cheaper PC play GTA V?
Often, yes. GTA V has been around a long time, so it runs on a wide range of PCs. With a separate graphics card it plays well at 1080p. On built-in graphics you will need very low settings, and it will not look its best.
Does GTA Online need a better PC than the story?
Not really. GTA Online uses the same game, so a PC that plays the story well will play online too. Busy online sessions can be a little harder on the PC, and a good internet connection matters.
Is there a newer version of GTA V for PC?
Yes. There is an enhanced edition that looks better, with improved lighting and detail. It asks more from your PC than the original. If you want that version at high settings, choose a stronger graphics card.
Is 16GB of memory enough for GTA V?
Yes. 16GB is a sensible amount and leaves room for things like voice chat in the background.
